GOAL 4: LOBBY AND ADVOCATE FOR BETTER TRADE POLICIES

From advocating for reduced taxes on exports to lobbying for safety policies on chemical-waste disposal, AWAN-EA is taking the lead in empowering members to push for an improved business environment for women exporters within their respective regions. Goal 4 focuses on one primary objective, which is to advocate for the development of new trade agreements and the enforcement of existing ones.

Our strategy is designed to empower members to lobby their governments for favorable trade policies to increase their access to foreign markets. Since laws and policies vary from country to country, AWAN-EA provides guidance to help members advocate for the development of new trade agreements and the enforcement of existing ones. AWAN-EA supports members by helping them to:

  • Establish priorities and build advocacy skills—AWAN-EA works with members to identify key issues that affect women in agribusiness. From there, we assist them in forging partnerships with other stakeholders to enhance their credibility and strengthen their position.
  • Participate in regional trade forums—AWAN-EA encourages active participation in regional trade forums, which foster the exchange of important news and views on policies and practices affecting the production and export of agricultural products.
  • Network with regional trade organizations—AWAN-EA works with industry-related organizations to review new trade agreements and enforce existing ones to reduce impediments to foreign trade.
